To the delight of young and old, an exceptional group of handpicked vendors displayed their wares for sale at the annual “Deck the Halls” Holiday Fair on Saturday December 2. It was a picture-perfect sunny, cold day that brought shoppers out to start working on their holiday gift lists.
Stepping into the beautifully bedecked schoolhouse, visitors were greeted by the spicy, warm aroma of mulled cider. The historical classroom space inside was brimming with everything from delicate, hand-blown glass pieces displayed on a table-top Christmas tree, to cheerful children’s hats and hand-puppets, to skillfully hand-painted wooden signs and folk art, and colorful dog collars. Several local artisans offered beautiful pottery, jewelry, framed photographs, photo cards, and oil paintings. Hungry shoppers were delighted to find delicious homemade baked goods, Pocasset Pretzels and cups of steaming hot chowder for sale. Fresh hand-made wreaths and other holiday arrangements as well as local cranberries were available to go home with shoppers.
Heartfelt thanks to the vendors who donated a percentage (or in some cases the entirety) of their proceeds to the CSPG fund, and to several local businesses and individuals who generously donated to the ever-popular raffle! Shoppers enjoyed dropping their tickets in buckets for a chance to win gift certificates to local favorites such as the Chart Room, Village Trading Company, Daily Brew Coffee House, North Falmouth Cheese Shop, Cataumet Fish, and Somerset Creamery. Other donated items in the raffle included one of Paul Sicchio’s charming wooden rocking horses and a beautiful Squeteague Sailmakers sailcloth bag.
Co-chairs Gloria Gammons and Bonnie Thomas would also like to thank Patti Dibella for donating the cider, Nancy Eldridge for the chowder, Brian Handy for the cranberries, Judy Vas for the holiday greenery, Hal DeWaltoff for his oil paintings, and all board members and other helpers who volunteered their time and efforts. We are grateful to everyone who helped to keep this wonderful Cataumet holiday tradition going strong. Funds raised are vital to the many wonderful programs and events that take place at the Schoolhouse throughout the year, such as Third Grade Visits, Tuesday Talks, Antique Auto Show & Picnic, as well as for the maintenance and upkeep of this historic building.
Save the Date: The 2018 Holiday Fair will take place on Saturday, December 1 from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Please spread the word to your families and friends!
