2019 Schoolhouse Holiday Fair
On Saturday, December 7, 2019, the Cataumet Schoolhouse community celebrated the season with our annual “Deck the Halls” Holiday Fair. As always, a generous gathering of family, friends, and neighbors came to support our beloved schoolhouse. As one of our major fundraisers, this annual event is not only a chance to shop and mingle, but also an important source of funds used to help defray the cost of building maintenance and to allow us to provide various other programs and events enjoyed by many throughout the year.
This year, Ben Joyce’s handpicked holiday music welcomed visitors as they walked up to the Schoolhouse and Ben Allen brought back a touch of nostalgia by showing them his beautiful 1910 Autocar. Inside, patrons enjoyed their perennial favorites, including steaming hot mulled cider and Nancy Eldridge’s delicious homemade chowder. In addition to a bake sale table brimming with goodies, shoppers chose from a wonderful assortment of local artisans’ goods, such as Judy Vaz’s fresh wreaths and table arrangements and, of course, cranberries donated by Handy Cranberry. Lucky raffle ticket holders won gift certificates and other items donated by local businesses, a sculpture by Alfie Glover, and a special painting of the Cataumet Schoolhouse by Hal DeWaltoff.
Co-chairs Laurie Bartlett, Gloria Gammons and Nancy Pollis greatly appreciate the support of fellow board members as well as members of the community who baked and otherwise volunteered their time and efforts before, during, and after the fair. Together we were able to keep this special Cataumet holiday tradition going strong.
